Fig Newtons, Arizona Island, And A God Who Does Miracles

This Saturday we officially "SprIng Forward." Beginning Sunday evening the sun will stay up an hour longer than the day before with a simple switch of the clock. Well, unless you live in Arizona, Hawaii, or the US Territories. None of those change their clocks. I think it’s because they’re all islands. They didn’t spring forward on Gilligan’s island either if I remember right.

Daylight savings time was found in the Bible a couple of times as well, (Well, sort of). In Joshua 10 the, “sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day." Joshua 10:13
The result was Joshua gaining victory over his enemies.

Then there’s the account where Isaiah has Hezekiah put fig newtons on his boil for healing, and backs the sun up as a sign.

Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered. Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?” Isaiah answered, “This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?” “It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.” Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.” II Kings 20:7-11

On Sunday evening when you look out and the sun is still in the sky later than the day before I hope you will remember that God's plan for your life is victory as well, and the same God who healed Hezekiah is healing today. The same God who gave Joshua the victory still gives victory.

Today is a great day to believe for the Lord of All Creation to be the Lord of every situation in your life. If you have asked God for a miracle, I'm hoping that today your faith to believe will be renewed.

I'm also hoping that I can figure out how to change the clock on the microwave this weekend.

Following The Son,

James A Williams
