Super Bowl Sunday Reminds Us To Keep Our Eyes On The Goal
Super Bowl Sunday is rapidly approaching us. It's almost an unofficial holiday in the United States. Here's some interesting facts about the big game:
1. We will eat 1.25 billion chicken wings. (Not Seahawk wings)
2. Domino's Pizza says they will deliver 11 million slices Sunday evening.
3. 100 million pounds of guacamole will be eaten.
4. Only Thanksgiving sees more food eaten than Super Bowl Sunday. (With all that food available I guess it's a good thing our 21 Day fast is over.)
It takes a lot for a team to make it to the Super Bowl. The Apostle Paul saw the athletes of his day work hard to accomplish their goals as well. He used running and boxing as illustrations of what it takes to live the Christian life victoriously.
“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." I Corinthians 9:25.
So, whether you watch the gave this weekend for the game, the commercials, or as an excuse to eat, let it remind us of the importance of self-discipline in the Christian walk. Life is not a game. Eternity is real. Let's stay focused on the goal.
Following The Son,
James A Williams
