Knock Knock! Who’s There?


My wife’s sister and brother in law came and visited us last Spring. During their stay my brother in law managed to lock himself out of the house. He had gone for a walk, and I locked the door without realizing he had gone out without a key. He ended up wandering around the block for a while, and eventually just sat on the porch waiting for someone to come let him in. What he didn’t know was that I was in the house. That’s right. As he sat outside waiting, with no phone, with no key, and no one to let him in, I was on the other side of the door.

My phone rang and it was our Youth Pastor calling. Pastor Vincent told me that a concerned neighbor had called the church to report a strange man sitting on the porch of our home. I went downstairs to discover my brother in law and let him in. In all fairness to him he thought that no one was home. However, had he knocked he would have been let in.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:7;
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

The Bible teaches us to bring our requests to God. When we do we are promised that God will hear our requests, and we know that God responds to the prayers of his children. 

As for my brother in law we all had a good laugh over his predicament. However, in life don’t stay out on the porch. Ask, seek, knock, and believe that as you do God will respond to your cry to him. 

Remember these words;
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

So what are you waiting for? Start knocking.

Like most of you I am just hearing the details of the Florida school shooting that has left at least 17 dead. The evil involved in such an act is hard to comprehend. Let's Do Our Part

We took a team of students from our church to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. It was like something out of a movie. Large fishing boats laying in the street in the middle of town, cars on the roofs of homes, houses that had literally floated and then set back down in other locations, none of us had ever witnessed anything like it. Convoy of Hope was on the scene working to provide for the immediate needs of residents, and also to assist with the long term rebuilding efforts. Tractor trailers filled with donated supplies were rolled in, and volunteers came from around the country, as the church responded to the need. I've seen it many times over the years. We need to do it again. " And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." Hebrews 13:16. Hurricane Harvey has devastated Texas and it's not done yet. A Bird Returns To Give Thanks

“Dad! Something is in the fireplace! I think it’s a squirrel!” I was in my office and answered my phone to hear my son express these words to me.  “I’ll be right there.” (That’s what Dads do. They come rescue their families from ravenous predators). I arrived and walked in already wondering how I would catch a squirrel. I remembered Clark Griswold having to catch a squirrel in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. He was going to catch it in a blanket and hit it with a hammer. I figured I’d leave the hammer part out, and go with more of a catch and release method.  I shined the flashlight in to discover a bird making all the racket.  “Bring me a blanket.” My son returned with the blanket/bird catcher. I gently opened the fireplace doors and reached in and trapped the bird. I wrapped him up, carried him outside, and released him.
