Thank You For 50,000 Views
I started blogging 5 months ago. I didn't know if anyone would read what I wrote, or how long it would last. I wasn't sure how often I would write or exactly what my format would be. All I knew was I wanted to write. Writing a book is a bucket list item for me, and I figured this would help me grow as a writer.
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." Zechariah 4:10.
At first I would get 2 or 3 dozen views a day on my site. It was small, but pretty exciting for me. I kept writing each day, and "Following The Son," became a daily thought of encouragement. Over time the blog has grown to a few hundred hits most days, and today I crossed the milestone of 50,000 views since I began 5 months ago. Google approached me 3 times about placing adds on the site based on the traffic, offering to pay me a small amount each day. We couldn't agree on format at first, but have since run it briefly to try it out, and it will return shortly. Having Google pay me to write devotional thoughts is pretty awesome, but I'm still not sure if I'm cool with having adds. We'll see.
Anyway, I just wanted to throw out two quick things on this unique milestone day.
- Go for it! Maybe it's not a blog, but whatever it is don't be afraid to go for it. You're gifted uniquely, and time travels swiftly. Always wanted to be an actress? Try out for your church play. Wanted to be an artist? Paint a picture. Go for it. Who cares if your start is small. If it's a gift God gave you He delights to see the work begin. Others will as well.
- Thank you! I've received a lot of feedback over the past 5 months, and it all helps. Well...most of it helps. I'm primarily grateful though for those who have encouraged me to start writing. I preach a lot, and get the privilege of preaching in a different church most Sundays. I love preaching, but writing is new. Many people pushed me to begin this new journey, and I'm grateful for them. Is there something others have encouraged you to do? Don't ignore it. They see something in you. Something God placed in you. Be grateful and step out.
Then let me close today, by saying thank you for reading this. Thanks for sharing my posts via social media so they can encourage others. I'll get back to a regular format tomorrow, and pray the words I share in 2018 will help you grow in your walk with God. And know that I regularly pray for Father to bless those who read these words each day. Always feel free to share your thoughts with me as well.
Following the Son,
James A Williams
