Let’s Stick With Love
“I have a dream!”
It’s one of the most famous speeches of all time, and the deliverer would pay for the dream with his life.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Reflecting on it this week my mind went back to a recent Thanksgiving gathering in our home. As we gathered around the table I made note of who was there. We were Puerto Rican, Salvadoran, Bajans, Indian, Belizean, Italian/Portuguese, and a white guy from VA. We were red and yellow, black and white.
In Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream," speech he said, "I have a dream that one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood." Although his dream has been realized at many of our tables, it's not yet fulfilled in our nation. May we, the body of Christ, be a beacon of hope and unity in the land as we demonstrate that in Christ we are adopted into one family to serve one Lord.
A few other favorite quotes from Dr. King are:
"The time is always right to do what is right."
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
Let's let brotherly love continue as we work together as the body of Christ to be a light in the darkness. Let's let the world know us by our love.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35
Following the Son,
James A Williams
