God Remembers What I Forget And Forgets What I Remember
Remember that time...?
Sometimes when I'm asked this my answer is, "no." If it's something someone did for me I really don't like that, but it happens. In the business of life I don't always remember what someone's done for me. I want to. I intend do. Yet, I still forget. I'm glad God and I do not have this in common.
It's not that God doesn't forget. God forgets the things I never forget. The negative junk. For some reason those are the things my brain lingers on, but thankfully he's got that awesome "sea of forgetfulness" thing. I wish I could get one of those on Amazon, but for now forgiving and forgetting will have to continue to be a process for me just as it is for you. Let's just be sure we're headed in the right direction.
God never forgets the good stuff though. We have this as an incredible promise in Hebrews.
"He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do." Hebrews 6:10
There's a couple of powerful things there.
The first one is that God never forgets how hard you've worked for him. If you ever feel unappreciated this isn't so with him. We're assured in the Scriptures that our labor is never in vain in the Lord, and our reward will be great.
Secondly, is that God never forgets how we've shown our love for him by caring for other believers. Don't miss this one. When we do good for our brothers and sisters in Christ Father sees that as our showing our love for him.
God remembers both the hard work, and the love shown. Let's stay faithful this year in our service to God and in our love for the family of God.
Imagine this conversation in eternity:
You: "Remember that time I gave you a ride when your car was in the shop?"
Friend: "Really? I don't remember that?"
God: "I do."
Following the Son,
James A Williams
