Do You Want To Build A Snowman? Some Great Truths From Snow

There are two types of people when the snow comes. We all loved it as children, although I would always say weekend snow was wasted snow. Snow is more than something to play in or look at when you're a child. It's all about longing for the beloved "snow day."

As we grow there are folks who are like The Whos down in Whoville when it snows. They bundle right up and head out dancing and singing. Then there are Grinches when it comes to snow, "hate, hate, hate...double hate...loathe!" Of course who has to shovel the snow has much to do with an individual's perspective.

No matter your take on the matter if you live where I live it comes every year. In the Bible snow is used to both illustrate and remind us of some powerful truths.

Snow reminds us of God's amazing grace. David wrote Psalm 51 after one of the lowest times of his life. He had committed adultery, and after a failed coverup attempt arranged to have the woman's husband killed in battle. In this place he writes,
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” Psalm 51:7

Snow reminds us of the change the grace of God brings. Snow transforms the appearance of whatever it covers. A dormant leafless tree is changed into a masterpiece when snow covers its' branches. An abandoned home becomes a winter wonderland. The same happens to you. Once changed by the power of grace you're now seen by God as covered.
Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Isaiah 1:18

Snow reminds us God always keeps his promises.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11
Snow comes down and waters the earth. God's Word also is sent and accomplishes its' purpose every time. It would snow upside down before God's Word would fail in your life.

So whether you're a Who down in Whoville or a Grinch when it comes to the white stuff, let it remind you of some truths about your position in Christ.

Following the Son,

James A Williams
