I Don't Trust The President

I don't trust the President. I didn't trust the last one either. I used to trust presidents. I used to put bumper stickers on my cars and encourage people to vote for a particular candidate. When you live like this you experience joy and sorrow from politics. When your favorite wins you're happy and you defend them emphatically. When the opponent wins you're devastated, and for 4 years you berate them. You count down the days to the next election hoping to be joyful again. I saw people do this when Obama was President, and now I'm watching people do this with Trump. It saddens me.

"Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save." Psalm 146:3.

I like how the NLT phrases it;
"Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God." Psalm 146:3-5.

Are you joyful today? If God is your helper you are. If your hope is in the Lord your God you are.

When President Obama made sweeping decisions that shifted our country away from God I was disappointed. But I didn't trust him anyway. President Trump makes statements that leave me flabbergasted. But I never trusted him anyway. If you will allow me to draw from the great Jedi Obi-Wan to young Anakin, "And don't forget she's a politician. They're not to be trusted." (Ok, so I'm a Star Wars geek).

As a citizen of the United States I expect things from our politicians. It's what we elect them for. I will never place my hope in them though. "My help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth." Psalm 121:2.

I watch believers who voted for the current President defend him at all costs. Even if he says or does something that's absurd. I watched believers who supported President Obama do this as well. Likewise believers on both sides experience anger and depression over these men. If that's you it may serve you well to turn CNN and Fox off for a little while. You may need to unfollow a few friends whose posts are continuous political rants that stir you up. Spend some time with your family, friends, and those who encourage you. Rest in the presence of Father and be sure your trust and hope are in him.

My trust isn't in the President. My trust wasn't in the last one. My trust won't be in the next one. There's no trust left for them when you're trusting "in the Lord with all your heart." Proverbs 3:5.

Following the Son,

James A Williams
