Let's All Help Someone
"Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you." Mother Teresa
When you're a pastor you're constantly asked how many members/attendees does your church have. I had the good fortune of being trained by a man who never boasted of numbers. The church had great attendance, beautiful facilities, new people came regularly, and over the years millions of dollars were given in mission's support. I mention those things just to point out he could have boasted in numbers. He always seemed more interested in helping people and being a blessing.
There's a lot of need in our world.
Children are growing up without being taught the things of God. You can't teach all of them, but you can teach one.
People go to bed hungry each night, and thousands die of starvation. You can't feed all of them, but you can feed someone.
There are people who have lost everything in natural disasters this year. You can't clothe all of them, but you can clothe someone.
Folks are alone and desperately in need of encouragement and friendship. You can't encourage everyone, but you can encourage someone.
When God's word speaks of helping others, and doing our part, it always seems to speak on a personal level.
"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40.
"Be kind to one another," Ephesians 4:32.
"Forgive one another," Colossians 3:13.
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat," Matthew 25:35.
The needs of our world are great, and can seem overwhelming. Do what you can where you are with what you have.
"Carry one another's burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2.
Following the Son,
James A Williams
