God Sings Over You
"Oh, what a beautiful morning! Oh, what a beautiful day! I've got a wonderful feeling, everything's going my way!"
My sons often woke up to my singing this, or some other jingle. From, "School Days," to "You've got a friend in me," to whatever other tune popped into my head. Rather than waking them up with shouts of, "Get up! We're late!" I went with entering the room a few minutes earlier than necessary and more of a gradual wake up. I don't want anyone running into my room yelling, "Get up," when I'm asleep so I don't want to do it to someone else.
My parents sang to me when I was a kid. I suppose that's where I learned it. They weren't good singers, but they created fond memories.
Reading one day I came across a passage that sort of blew my mind. God does it too.
"The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17.
These were the prophet's words to God's children being restored. Our Heavenly Father would rejoice over them with singing. My wife likes the TV show, "The Voice." I watch with her sometimes, and some of those folks can really sing. Knowing that Father made us I can't help but wonder what his voice must sound like. I'm sure it's incredible. However, whatever it sounds like having God sing over you has to be incredible.
Imagine eternity when we're standing in God's presence, singing his praises, and then he quiets us to sing to us. What a day that will be!
In the meantime, sing to those you love even if you can't sing. You'll be acting like God. And don't forget today that your Heavenly Father doesn't put up with you.
He delights in you.
Following the Son,
James A Williams
