When It's Time For Work
Most of us have had jobs along the way that weren't too enjoyable all the time. School as well has days that are better then others. How do we handle ourselves when the tasks of our day are less than desirable? When the customer or the patient is difficult, or when the assignment is something we would never choose on our own?
As challenging as those days can be it's so important that we remember who it is we're actually working for. God's word directs us with these words, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord," Colossians 3:23.
How we handle ourselves at work and school is a testimony of who we are in Christ. Coming in late, long lunches, doing a halfway job, having a lousy attitude all affect our witness. If our coworkers work this way it can be easy, if we're not careful, to fall in with them. If we feel that our employer doesn't appreciate our efforts it can become easy to justify poor work habits. However, as the children of God we have to remember who we actually work for. If we're working for our Heavenly Father we will want to do our best.
Let's be sure our coworkers are glad when we show up. Our supervisors should love that we're on their crew, and if you're a student your positive attitude should bless your teacher. Attitudes and habits are contagious, and others will join in with us. Yet, even if they don't, we work for the King of Kings. Our efforts glorify Him.
Let's do our best today. You've got this!
Following the Son,
James A Williams
