Tell Me Something Good


"Siri, what's my name?" 
"Your name is James, but you asked me to call you, Mighty Warrior."
If you have an iPhone then you probably speak to Siri from time to time. You may not have known that you can tell her what to call you.
Yes, I went with, "Mighty Warrior."
It's the same name I give when I order my coffee at Starbucks. I love hearing the barista shout out, "Mighty Warrior," and then I step forward for my Venti Triple Skinny Pumpkin Latte. (It's what we mighty warriors drink in the Fall).
I didn't come up with the name on my own. An angel gave it to Gideon, and I laid claim to it for myself. Gideon was hiding from the Midianites at the time. Doesn't really sound too mighty.

"When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior." Judges 6:12.
I think the angel learned this from God. He saw the good in Gideon, and saw what he could become.
It takes someone special to be able to do that in life. Anyone can look at someone or a situation and see what's wrong. There's nothing unique about being able to see faults. The ability to look at a man hiding and see him as mighty sets you apart.
Whether you're at home, work, school, or anywhere try to find what's good. Look for what's going right. This doesn't mean we will ignore problems or needs. It means we will stay out of the dangerous rut of looking for faults.

"Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it." Proverbs 11:27.

Where’s the checkbook? I had searched high and low, and hadn’t been able to locate one. We rarely use checks for anything anymore, but I found myself in need of one. It’s My Turn To Be The Pop

“ Children's children are a crown.” Proverbs 17:6 One year ago today my phone rang. I was looking forward to this call. “Hey, Dad. How are you?” “I’m alright.” (Standard response) He wasn’t alright. The cancer, chemo, and treatments had taken such a toll on him. This was Josiah’s birthday though. His first birthday. My Dad always called everyone in the family on their birthday and sang to them. He never missed anyone’s. It wasn’t pretty, and became a comical family joke yet we all looked forward to it.  I called for my son, Nathaniel, who brought his son, Josiah, over to the phone. Christmas Reactions: A Look At The Responses To Jesus' Birth

The reactions of children on Christmas morning can be priceless. The way their faces light up in response to the gifts, decorations, and lights communicates such wonder and awe. I have a grandson who is closing in on two. Sometimes when he sees things he literally gasps. So much of the world is still new to him. Just as I love a child's reaction, I love the reactions in the Christmas story to those who encountered the Christ child. The Bible uses specific words to describe many of the responses to seeing a baby unlike one they'd ever seen before, and the events surrounding his birth. Consider a few with me. Mary, " treasured ."
